Day 158 - "Unkle Clemente"

Clemente spent much of his time during the off-season involved in charity work. When Managua, the capital city of Nicaragua, was affected by a massive earthquake on December 23, 1972, Clemente (who had been visiting Managua three weeks before the quake) immediately set to work arranging emergency relief flights.[35] He soon learned, however, that the aid packages on the first three flights had been diverted by corrupt officials of the Somoza government, never reaching victims of the quake.[36]
Clemente decided to accompany the fourth relief flight, hoping that his presence would ensure that the aid would be delivered to the survivors.[37] The airplane he chartered for a New Year's Eve flight, a Douglas DC-7,[38][39] had a history of mechanical problems and sub-par flight personnel, and it was overloaded by 5,000 pounds. It crashed into the ocean off the coast of Isla Verde, Puerto Rico immediately after takeoff on December 31, 1972.[40] A few days after the crash, the body of the pilot and part of the fuselage of the plane were found. An empty flight case apparently belonging to Clemente was the only personal item recovered from the plane. Clemente's teammate and close friend Manny Sanguillen was the only member of the Pirates not to attend Roberto's funeral. The catcher chose instead to dive into the waters where Clemente's plane had crashed in an effort to find his teammate.

Prelude to Day 130

Tarsem Singh is quite possibly becoming one of my favorite directors of all time, and hes only done 2 movies(one of them i have yet to see). His style of visuals, and creativity is so moving it reminds me deeply of my own imagination that i thrive so hardly to convey in my work. As the time rolls on, this task is becoming less and less difficult, but to see how masterfully Tarsem conveys his genius on the silver screen is spell binding.

The Cell(2000) being one of them, this has got to rank somewhere in my top 5 favorite movies, just for the fact that the dream world he created paralleled my nightmares in so many ways at the time i was about 12 and this movie was so amazing, i had no idea anyone else's dreams could possibly resemble mine. His 2nd film "The Fall" i have seen the trailer for, and seems nothing short of a masterpiece and i'm eager to watch it, keep on the look out for a dream-like saga in the coming days
